Importing a Default Set of Materials

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform includes several briefcases of default material definitions that you can import to populate the database with a set of materials.

Each briefcase is a 3D XML file that includes materials suited to a particular type of analysis, like computational fluid dynamics (CFD) or elastic-fatigue analysis.

The material definitions in a briefcase are defined with their Family attribute set to a unique label.

You can filter your searches in the material browser using this label to retrieve the imported materials.

Important: Dassault Systèmes provides sample material data. You have the exclusive responsibility for taking adequate measures to properly test, operate, and use each DS Offering and for the results obtained therefrom.

  1. From the top bar, select Add > Import.

See Social and Collaborative: Product Development - Model Based: Exchange Management: Import: Importing 3D XML Files.

  2. In the Format list of the Import dialog box , select with authoring (*.3dxml) or for review (*.3dxml).
  3. In the Filename text area, select one or more of the following briefcases to import the selected set of materials:
    • DS-Standard.3dxml
    • DS-Engineering.3dxml
    • DS-EngineeringFluids.3dxml
    • DS-ElasticFatigue.3dxml
    • DS-InjectionMolding.3dxml
    • DS-FKM-Weld.3dxml
    • DS-VerityWeldFatigue.3dxml

These 3D XML files are stored by default in: install_root\resources\materials.

See About the Material Briefcases Available for Import.

  4. From the Options > General section, select As Reference.
  5. Click OK.
The 3D XML data is imported.

The imported materials are available in the Material Browser, according to the immersive panel options you specified.
