Defining Analytical Rigid Surfaces

You can apply an analytical rigid surface constraint to define a single-sided rigid contact surface whose motion is controlled by the motion of a single point. Analytical rigid surfaces offer reduced computational expense as compared to element-based rigid surfaces or deformable surfaces.

An analytical rigid surface is described by a series of connected lines and curves that have been extruded along a straight line or rotated about an axis.

Support Selection
  1. From the Abstractions section of the action bar, click Analytical Rigid Surface .
  2. Optional: Enter a descriptive Name.
  3. Select a geometry support.

  4. Select a Point on the model or a node-based group that contains a single node as the reference point for motion of the surface.
  5. Optional: Click Flip direction to change the expected contact direction of the surface.

    The contact side of the surface renders with a woven pattern; the noncontact side appears smooth.

  6. Click OK.
