Defining Point Inertias

You can use a point inertia definition to apply nonstructural mass and inertia components at one or more points.

You can deactivate this feature in the Model Tree from within the context menu.

  1. From the Abstractions section of the action bar, click Point Inertia .
  2. Optional: Enter a descriptive Name.
  3. Select geometry supports.

    Point inertias must be applied to one or more points.

    Tip: You can right-click the Support field and select Create Support to create a new point or to create a proximity or a manual mesh group containing a point or points.

  4. Enter the mass.
  5. Enter the inertia components in the 1-, 2-, and 3- directions (I11,I22,I33) and the products of inertia (I12,I13,I23).
  6. Choose an Axis system definition.
    • Global: Aligns the local feature triad with the global coordinate system.

    • Local: Aligns the local feature triad with a selected axis system in the model.

    • Specify: Orient the local feature triad directly by right-clicking the feature triad glyph on the model and selecting an orientation tool.

  7. Click OK.
