About BOM PowerView

The bill of materials (BOM) for a part can be accessed from the part’s categories, which shows the state and other information about each part in the BOM. The Bill of Materials PowerView page lets you view, modify, and generate different reports based on the BOM. You can also copy BOMs so that an existing product structure can be used as a model for a new structure.

Depending on their access, some users may not see all parts in the BOM. For example, a specific part may be shown only to a part owner who has design responsibility and to users who have read/show access and are members of the organization that has design responsibility for the part.

Changes made in the BOM in edit mode can only be applied directly to development parts in a state before the Complete state and production parts in the Preliminary state. For all other part types and part states, a new markup is created to save the changes.

In view mode, several format options can be selected from the Reports menu to change the display format of the BOM.

This page discusses:

BOM Page Modes

A part’s BOM page has two modes: view (default) and edit. View mode provides a comprehensive view of the BOM and links to various BOM reports. The comparison report provides a means to find unique and similar components included in BOMs. The where used report helps to find all parent MBOM assemblies that contain a given part.

Edit mode allows for single-level or multi-level editing in the BOM and the option to save as a BOM Markup. A Manufacturing Engineer can add, remove or replace manufacturing parts in an MBOM.

MBOMs can be copied from one plant to another to enable rapid creation of MBOMs for a new manufacturing plant.

BOM Views

By default, the Bill of Materials page opens in EBOM View. When Manufacturing BOM Management is installed, additional tabs are available from the page toolbar.

In Plant-Specific View, a Manufacturing Engineer can add, remove or replace manufacturing parts in a BOM when in edit mode.
