About Defining MEPs as Alternate and Substitute Parts

This feature lets you define Manufacturer Equivalent Parts (MEPs) as alternate and substitute parts. By default, this feature is disabled. To have it enabled, contact your ENOVIA administrator.

If authorized to do so, you can define MEPs as alternate and substitute parts in an EBOM. Not all MEPs may be redefined as alternate or substitute parts. To view which MEPs can be redefined for a given context part, see the Equivalents table for that part. Any MEP that is allowed will have the status Authorized listed in the table. For how to define a MEP as an alternate part, see Defining MEPs as Alternate Parts.

The manufacturer equivalent table includes the column Alternate/Substitute. This column provides the status of the MEP as alternate or substitute and enables you redefine the part.

Note: If the Alternate/Substitute column is not shown, this function has not been enabled.

The Alternate/Substitute column has three subcolumns:

Usage Type - Shows the definition of the part, either Alternate or Substitute.

Usage Context- Shows the Context part for with the MEP usage type is defined. If the type is Substitute, this column lists the EBOM parent parts. If the type is Alternate, the column is blank.

Actions - Shows linked icons that enables user to define or remove the MEP usage type.

Released MEPs defined as Alternate parts

A MEP can become an alternate part only if the MEP is in the released state and Location Status is authorized.
