Hiding Objects Temporarily

You can temporarily hide objects (for example, surfaces or parts) using your computer's function keys. Hiding objects makes it easier to interact with other objects that are behind them.

When you work with complex parts and assemblies, you often need to select objects that are obstructed by other objects. You can use the digger tool to temporarily hide objects in the 3D area so that you can access the objects behind them. After you finish interacting with these objects, you can then use the digger tool to restore the hidden objects. This tool is often more convenient than the hide/show and deactivate/activate tools used to adjust the display of your parts and assemblies.

Objects that you hide with the digger tool are hidden only temporarily—they do not remain hidden between 3DEXPERIENCE sessions.

Hiding and Showing Objects
  1. Position the pointer over the object that you want to hide.
  2. Press F6 to hide the surface directly behind the pointer, or press F7 to hide the entire part.

Press F6 or F7 again to hide another surface or part, effectively "digging" through your assembly.

The surface or component becomes transparent, and you can no longer select it. You can now view or select objects that are behind the hidden surface or component.
  3. Interact with the objects that interest you.

For example, you can select supports.

  4. Perform either of the following actions to restore the surfaces or components in the 3D area:

    • Press F8 to restore all surfaces or components hidden by the digger.
    • Press F9 to restore only the most recently hidden surface or component; you can press F9 repeatedly to restore hidden surfaces or components in reverse sequence.
