Synchronizing System Attributes

You can add a summary attribute to a file in Microsoft Office and synchronize it to the ENOVIA server.

If system (in case of ENOVIA) or summary (in case of Microsoft Office) attributes are used, they must be enclosed between "$$" for correct identification. For example, "$$Description$$","$$Author$$", and so on.

The following table explains the supported system attributes for a file in ENOVIA for to-and-fro transfer.

Attribute Mapping from/to ENOVIA
  1. To add a summary attribute to a file in Microsoft Office and map it to ENOVIA, do the following:
    1. Open a Microsoft Office document on your computer.

In Microsoft Office 2010 you can access summary attributes by clicking Prepare > Properties in the toolbar ribbon.

Note: Prepare is not available by default. See MS Office 2010 Help for information about customizing the toolbar ribbon.

    2. Assign the value of Design Document in the text box provided.
  2. To add a summary attribute to a file mapped in ENOVIA and synchronize it to Microsoft Office, do the following:
    1. In ENOVIA, define an attribute (string type).

      Note: Name can be different.

    2. Add this attribute to the relevant ENOVIA types as a Microsoft Word Document.
    3. To support the transfer of attributes for a file, from Microsoft Office to ENOVIA, map this attribute in MCADInteg-CADToMxAttribMapping attribute of the GCO. In this case the mapping will be: msword,$$attribute$$|MS Word Document, attribute
    4. To support the transfer of attributes for a file, from ENOVIA to Microsoft Office, map the attribute in MCADInteg-MxToCADAttribMapping attribute of the current GCO. In this case the mapping will be: MS Word Document, attribute|msword, $$attribute$$

If Copy attribute on check-in is set to true, then the attributes are transferred. Alternatively, a user can synchronize the attribute using Sync Attribute to synchronize the attributes.

Note: In an active Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, if you add a custom file property and link it to the content in an active presentation, and perform Sync to Database, the property details are not synchronized with the ENOVIA database value. This is due to a restriction in Microsoft PowerPoint.
