Simulation Model Preparation

Simulation Model Preparation lets you check, simplify, and repair geometry for simulation without impacting its use in other processes.

You might want to modify your geometry in the following situations to avoid a negative impact on the numerical analysis:

• If your model includes fine details (such as small faces, edges, holes, and fillets) that are required for manufacturing, packaging, or aesthetics, the level of detail can unduly constrain the meshing process.
• If you have imported geometry with topological or geometric flaws, including incomplete geometry, you must repair all flaws before generating the mesh.

In some cases, small details can have a significant meaning in your simulation. For example, they might occur in a region of stress concentration where you need a fine mesh. In most cases, however, these details add nothing to the analysis, and you want the mesh generation process to ignore them.

Simulation Model Preparation is a native app that lets you:

• Repair geometry (for example, search for and join small faces or close gaps).
• Defeature geometry (such as removing small faces or extending existing faces) to reduce the number of discrete features.
• Idealize geometry (by performing midsurface extraction, trimming, or sewing) to generate simpler geometry that is closer to an optimal design.
• Create new features (such as points, lines, projected points, or projected curves) to simplify the meshing process.

Before you begin using Simulation Model Preparation, you must have geometry that was created using other 3DEXPERIENCE modeling apps or imported from an external application. The refined geometry that you create in Simulation Model Preparation is used to create a mesh in the Structural Model Creation app or the Fluid Model Creation app.
