Sharing, Duplicating, and Deleting Potion

You can share, duplicate, and delete a Potion widget. This page provides you with information on what happens to the widget and its copies or instances when you perform these actions.

For information on how to share, duplicate, or delete a widget, see Managing Widgets.

This page discusses:

Sharing a Potion Widget

You can share Potion widgets from any dashboard on which you have Owner rights.

Important: The explanations below do not apply if you have added the copy of the widget to the same dashboard as the original widget. Sharing a widget and adding it to the same dashboard is considered as duplicating a widget. For more information on duplication, see topic below.

When you share a Potion widget, a copy of it is created on the dashboard of the user you have shared it with. This copy is preconfigured with the same Ingredients as your Potion but it is stripped of any personal information, such as email addresses for example. Also, it is turned off and it displays a Configure button. On their copy, the user must:

  1. Click Configure.
  2. Configure each Ingredient that display a Configure it button.

The original Potion and its copy are completely independent: Changes you make to your Potion are not applied to the copy. Similarly, changes made to the copy are not applied to your Potion. Each Potion can only execute its own Action(s) in response to its own Trigger(s).

Duplicating a Potion Widget

When you duplicate a Potion widget, or when you share a Potion widget and add its copy to the same dashboard as the original widget, a second instance of the widget is created.

The original Potion and the second instance are codependent, meaning that any changes you make to the original widget are also applied to the second instance. Similarly, changes you make to the second instance are also applied to the original widget. For example, if you turn off the original widget, the second instance also turns off.

The only independent action is deleting the original widget or the second instance. For example, if you delete the second instance, the original widget still exists.

Deleting a Potion Widget

When you delete a Potion widget that is turned on, or when you delete a tab or a dashboard that contains a Potion that is turned on, the Potion will continue to execute its Action(s) while its deletion is being processed. This process may take up to 24 hours, even if this Potion is no longer visible on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

To avoid this situation, turn off the Potion before deleting it or before deleting the tab or dashboard that contains it.

If you restore a dashboard that contains Potion widgets, you may have to manually turn them back on.

For information on how to turn on or off a Potion widget, see Turning Potion on and Off.
