Product Reference (Product and 3D Part)

From the same Product reference PLM object, the Product modeler generates two types of references: a Product and a 3D Part.

Note: You can apply configuration to a Product reference, but not to a 3D Part.

This page discusses:

Product Reference

A Product reference is a reference without restriction. For more information, see Reference.

3D Part Reference

When creating a 3D Part, a 3D Shape representation is automatically created and instantiated. For more information, see Product Representation Reference (3D Shape, Drawing, Markup).

  • A 3D Part always aggregates a single 3D Shape.
  • A 3D Part can aggregate other representation instances.
  • A 3D Part is a terminal node in a product assembly. It cannot aggregate product instances.
  • A 3D Part cannot be configured with effectivity.

Important: The product range must be identical for the 3D Part and for the 3D Shape.
Note: If a customized type is created from a 3D Part, the 3D Part icon overloads the customized type icon.
