About Solid Combines

Two or more extruded profiles can be intersected to create a solid combine. This topic provides you with the information you need to create solid combines.

This section describes the various options available in the Combine.x dialog box to create a solid combine.

Profile

The components you can select are:

  • Sketches.
Warning: A sketch containing more than one domains cannot be selected for creating solid combine features.
  • Surfaces.
  • 3D planar curves.
  • Sketches sub-elements: For this, use the Go to profile definition contextual command. For more information, see Using the Sub-Elements of a Sketch.

To change the components, you can:

  • Click First profile or Second profile and select another sketch in the geometry or in the tree.
  • Use any of these creation option available on right-clicking the boxes or the selected profiles:
    • Insert Wireframe > Create Sketch: Opens the Sketcher app after selecting any plane, and lets you sketch the profile you need as explained in the Sketcher User's Guide.
    • Insert Surfaces > Create Fill: Creates fill surfaces between the boundary segments. For more information, see Generative Shape Design User's Guide: Creating Surfaces: Creating Fill Surfaces.

    • Insert Operations > Create Join: Joins surfaces or curves. For more information, see Generative Shape Design User's Guide: Performing Operations on Shape Geometry: Joining Surfaces or Curves.
    • Insert Operations > Create Extract: Generates separate elements from unconnected sub-elements. For more information, see Generative Shape Design User's Guide: Performing Operations on Shape Geometry: Extracting Geometry: Extracting Elements.
    • Insert Operations > Create Tessellate: Generates a tessellate.

Direction

There are two types of directions you can specify to compute the intersection. For the first and the second components, you can choose:

  • Normal to profile: By default, this option is selected.
  • User specified Direction: You can specify a direction by selecting a reference element.
