Using the Sub-Elements of a Sketch

You can select different elements belonging to the same sketch for creating pads.

The steps described here also apply for creating pockets, shafts, grooves, stiffeners, ribs and slots.


Before you begin:

To perform this task, sketch three rectangles in a Sketcher session.

Creating Pads
  1. From the Model section of the action bar, click Pad .

    The Pad Definition dialog box appears.

  2. Right-click the Selection box and select Go to Profile Definition .
    The Profile Definition dialog box appears.
  3. Select Sub-elements if not already done.
    Important: If you encounter complex profiles causing ambiguity cases, the app lets you determine which lines you want to use as illustrated below:

    The app detects an ambiguity as shown by the red symbol : three different lines can be determined from this point.



    Define the line to end the selection:



  4. Select an edge.


    The sketch name as well as the edge name appear in the dialog box. The app also previews the pad.

  5. Click Add to add another element.
  6. Select an edge belonging to another profile.

    The app now previews this pad too.

  7. Repeat steps 6 and 7 using an edge belonging to the third profile.
  8. Select edge2 from the starting elements box and click Remove to remove the associated profile from the selection.
  9. Click OK to validate your selection.

    The Pad Definition dialog box reopens. You can enter the parameters of your choice to extrude two profiles.

  10. Enter the parameters of your choice to extrude two profiles and click OK.
