Creating Shafts

You can revolve a 2D planar or non-planar profile around an axis to create a shaft feature. The material is added in this process.

This task shows you how to create a shaft, that is a revolved feature, using an open profile.

About Shafts
  1. From the Model or the Essentials section of the action bar, click Shaft .
  2. In the Profile box of the Shaft.x dialog box, select a profile to extrude.

    The profile (highlighted) is open.

The preview of the shaft appears about the axis and the two limits, the first and second angle values are also displayed. By default, the first angle value is 360 degrees.

Note: An open profile (not even closed by the revolution axis) cannot be used as the first feature in a body.
  3. From the Type list, select the limiting type among the following and define the limiting element:
    • Angle: Creates a feature up to the defined angle value.
    • Up to next: Creates a feature up to thenext intersecting feature.
    • Up to last: Creates a feature up to the last intersecting feature.
    • Up to plane: Creates a feature up to the the defined plane.
    • Up to surface: Creates a feature up to the the defined surface.
  4. Optional: Under Second Limit, Type from the list, select the limiting type among the following and define the limiting element:
    • Angle: Creates a feature up to the defined angle value.
    • Up to next: Creates a feature up to thenext intersecting feature.
    • Up to last: Creates a feature up to the last intersecting feature.
    • Up to plane: Creates a feature up to the the defined plane.
    • Up to surface: Creates a feature up to the the defined surface.

Make sure that the sum of the two angles is less than 360 degrees.

Tip: You can select the LIM1 and LIM2 handles and drag them till the required value is achieved.

The preview of the shaft is displayed.
  5. Optional: In the respective Offset boxes, enter the offset angle values for the first and second limits.

Note: The Offset boxes are not available for the First Angle and the Second Angle limiting types.

The shaft is created. A node (Shaft.x) is added to the tree.
