V5 to 3DEXPERIENCE Data Import Table

The following table describes import correspondences between V5 file-based data and 3DEXPERIENCE content.

The statuses for import results are fully imported, partially imported, and not imported (-).

V5 Data Type 3DEXPERIENCE Content Type Import Result
Piping/Tubing Part Data
Piping partIn New Typing mode, there is a preference to select the piping part type. The part type can be a miscellaneous part or a dedicated piping part type if you set properly the Part Subtype table.

Following the Preferences selection, it can be either a miscellaneous part or a dedicated piping part type according to the Part Subtype table content.

For more information, see Me > Preferences> 3D Modeling > Fluid Systems > Piping and Tubing 3D Design > FBDI/DBDI Preferences.

Part Geometry Data
Associated CATShapes - -
Part Attribute Data
Piping/tubing system attributes Piping/tubing system attributes Partially imported

Standard, Sub-part type, Nominal Size, End Style, Rating, Wall Thickness, and Outside Diameter are imported.

All other system attributes, such as Material Category, Schedule, Insulation Thickness, WeightDry, and WeightWet are imported using business rules.

User defined attributes User defined attributes Fully imported

Imported using business rules

Part Port Data
Piping/tubing part connectorsPiping/tubing part connectorsFully imported

Migrated to ports and appropriate connector geometry is created and linked. Connector geometry is converted to an axis system. Its position, alignment, and orientation depends on the associated geometrical elements. See the image below.

Insulation Data
Insulation objectPiping insulationFully imported
MultiDiscipline insulation object on piping part/rigid pipe.Piping insulationNew engineering connection of rigid connections type are created if the insulation is on piping part.
Pipes and Tubes
  • Heavy pipes and tubes
  • Light pipes and tubes
  • Bendable pipes and tubes
Rigid pipes and tubesPartially imported

Instances and references are imported. Instance application attributes are not imported.

Flexible tubesFlexible tubesPartially imported

Geometry is imported. No technological attributes or connectivity information is imported.

User defined attributes

Run, Path Reservation, and Item Reservation Objects
Run objectsRigid route or 3D part with representation containing a solid with the V5 shapePartially or fully imported

The import of run objects depends on the chosen options in Me > Preferences:

  • Nothing: the run is not converted
  • Solid Rep: a product and a representation are created, and the representation contains the solid geometry of the run.
  • Create Rigid Route: the run is converted into a rigid route with the same nodes and end connection.

Important: The import works only if the Full option have been checked in the Import Scenario area of the Select the file to Import dialog box. For more information, see File Coexistence and Migration User's Guide: File-based Design Import: FBDI in Interactive Mode: Running FBDI Interactively.
Path ReservationRigid route or 3D part with representation containing a solid with the V5 shapePartially or fully imported

The behavior is the same as Run objects

Item reservationRigid route or 3D part with representation containing a solid with the V5 shapePartially or fully imported

The behavior is the same as Run objects

Welds
  • Heavy welds
  • Light welds
Piping Miscellaneous parts and geometryFully imported

The weld attribute is equivalent to V5 part type + "_" + Weld type. For example, if the V5 attributes are In-Line Weld as Part Type and W1 as Weld Type, it becomes In-Line Weld_W1.

If a V5 part type is blank, then the sub part type is hard coded with the V5Weld string.

V5 to 3DEXPERIENCE Data Import Table: Connections

The following table describes import correspondences between V5 connections and 3DEXPERIENCE content.

V5 Data Type3DEXPERIENCE

Content Type

Import Result
Two piping part instances connected by fluidic connection and having 3 constraints 1 Fix and 2 Coincidence.Engineering connectionsNew engineering connection of type Rigid is created between the axis systems.
Note: To determine which is driving constraint and which is driven constraint the following order is used:
  1. Equipment
  2. Nozzle
  3. Piping, tubing parts.
Pipe connected to part through run.Contextual designRoute is created from external reference of axis system of part at junction.
Pipe is created as branch from another pipe.Contextual designPipe is created as branch pipe i.e. created through external reference of pipe branch port.

V5 to 3DEXPERIENCE Data Import Table: Spools

The following table describes import correspondences between V5 spools and 3DEXPERIENCE content.

V5 Data Type3DEXPERIENCE Content TypeImport Result
Spool objectSpool productFully imported
Objects contained in the spool with a link.Objects are imported in compliance with their own import rules.Objects contained in the spool in Preliminary Mode. The object becomes a product and is a typed reference because the discipline is Piping_spool.

Considerations

You should take the following considerations into account:

Importing in Replace Mode

The table below lists Piping & Tubing data that is updated when imported using FBDI in Replace mode.

DataUpdate Status
Piping/Tubing PartsUpdated
Heavy Pipes and Tubes

Straight Pipe, Bendable Pipe, Straight Tube, and Bendable Tube

Note: FBDI in Replace mode is not supported by Piping Lines.

The table below lists Equipment and Hanger data that is updated/when imported using FBDI in Replace mode.

DataUpdate Status
Equipment PartsUpdated
Hanger Parts
Nozzles
Important: You can import a V5 file into 3DEXPERIENCE by using File-based Design Import (FBDI). Now, if you import the same file again into 3DEXPERIENCE, this file replaces the previous one. For more information, see File Coexistence and Migration User's Guide.
Modify Attribute Data
The table below shows the FBDI ((in Replace mode) result when attributes on a V5 Piping/Tubing part are modified.
Part, Attribute, and Port dataResult
System attributes, such as Standard, Sub Part Type, Nominal Size, End Style, Rating, Wall Thickness, and Outside Diameter Updated
Port geometryPoints to axis system
Port attributesUpdated
Unmapped system and user attributesImported using business rules assigned to PLM Opening PLMEnsFBDIUserAttribute

If Piping/Tubing sub-type names are modified, the corresponding 3DEXPERIENCE sub-type names are updated; but the discipline (e.g. Piping_Part, Piping_Rigid_Pipe etc.) remains the same.

3DEXPERIENCE Content Type

Mapped Type and Sub-types

Import Result
Sub-class of Piping PartSub-class of Piping PartNLS name of the class Type
Sub-class of Tubing PartSub-class of Tubing PartNLS name of the class Type

If you modify the geometry of a piping part in V5 and then import the part again into 3DEXPERIENCE, the latest V5 geometry is imported.

If equipment/hanger and support type names are modified, the corresponding 3DEXPERIENCE sub-type names are updated; but the discipline remains the same.

EquipmentNLS name of the class Type
Support PartNLS name of the class Type
Note: If V5 Equipment parts having Piping/Tubing part connectors, these are migrated to 3DEXPERIENCE Piping Ports.
Add, Remove, and Modify a Connector
The table below shows the FBDI (in Replace mode) result when a connector is added, removed, or modified on a V5 Piping part.
Part, Attribute, and Port dataResult
System attributes such as Standard, Sub Part Type, Nominal Size, End Style, Rating, Wall Thickness, and Outside Diameter Updated
Existing Port geometryPoint to axis system
Port attributesUpdated
New ConnectorMigrated to Port and appropriate connector geometry is created and linked. Connector geometry points to the axis system.
Removed ConnectorCorresponding port is removed.
If connector names are modified, the corresponding 3DEXPERIENCE port names are modified but the discipline (Piping_Port) remains the same.

Example

The following is an example of how port connector geometry is converted into an axis system when a V5 part is imported into 3DEXPERIENCE. The axis features are added under a new geometrical set called Axis_Systems_FBDI.

In 3DEXPERIENCE a new geometrical set is created:
