Overview

This section provides a brief overview of the Branch Rule tables.

The Branch Rule ensure that when you are creating a branch, the connection type is compatible with the nominal size of the header and the branch.

In Data Setup, this definition table should be assigned to:

  • when using file-based tables, the Branch Rule item in the resource table of Piping/Tubing Design Resources.
  • when using Engineering Specification objects, a specification in the resource table of Piping/Tubing Specification Resources.

To customize the table, enter a line in the spreadsheet for each nominal size of Header and Branch:

Branch Port Technology

The available technologies are STUB-IN, STUB-ON, SET-ON and OnSurfaceCompo. If the offset value is unset, the value is automatically calculated according to the following rules:

STUB-IN Technology



  • 1: Offset
  • 2: Wall thickness
  • 3: Rigid route before cut (blue)

STUB-ON Technology



  • 1: Offset
  • 2: Rigid route before cut (blue)

SET-ON Technology



  • 1: Offset
  • 2: Rigid route before cut (blue)

OnSurfaceCompo Technology

1st case

2nd case

  • 1: Offset
  • 2: 90° for the first case and 45° for the second case

Sample Resource File

This section explains where to find the sample resource file.

The default location of XXX_XXX_BranchingRules.xls is:

..\startup\EquipmentAndSystems\Piping\Specification\

and then the relevant specification, such as SS150R.
