Importing a Default Set of Materials

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform includes several briefcases of default material definitions that you can use to populate the database with a set of materials. Each briefcase is a 3D XML file that includes materials suited to a particular type of analysis, like computational fluid dynamics (CFD) or elastic-fatigue analysis. The material definitions in a briefcase are defined with their Family attribute set to a unique label; you can filter your searches in the material browser using this label to retrieve these imported materials.

Important: Dassault Systèmes provides sample material data. You have the exclusive responsibility for taking adequate measures to properly test, operate, and use each DS Offering and for the results obtained therefrom.

  1. Select Add > Import.
    The Import dialog box appears.
  2. From the Format selections, select 3DXML with authoring (*.3dxml).
  3. From the Source selections, select File on disk.
  4. In the Filename field, specify the briefcase that you want to import:
    1. Click and navigate to the directory where the material briefcases are stored on your computer. By default, these 3D XML files are stored in: install_root\resources\materials, where install_root is the location where the Dassault Systèmes software is installed.
    2. Double-click one of the following material briefcase files:

      • DS-Standard.3dxml
      • DS-Engineering.3dxml
      • DS-EngineeringFluids.3dxml
      • DS-ElasticFatigue.3dxml
      • DS-InjectionMolding.3dxml
      • DS-FKM-Weld.3dxml
      • DS-VerityWeldFatigue.3dxml

Important: A separate set of advanced materials is delivered along with the Rendering product. For more information, see Rendering Scene Design User's Guide: Using the Material Library: About the Material Library.

  5. From the General tabbed page, select As Reference and leave the other options clear.

Note: For more information about the other import options available in this dialog box, see Importing 3D XML Files.

  6. Click OK.
The Import Progression progress bar appears. Upon completion, the Operation report dialog box informs you whether the import succeeded: for successful import, you can review a brief overview of the imported objects; for failed import, you can review the errors and warnings that occurred. You can also open a report from this dialog box to read about the import process in greater detail.

The imported materials are available in the material browser.

Note: If the import operation succeeded and you do not see the newly imported materials, review your current 6WTags selections and search string. When these tags or search filters are overly restrictive—for example, if you are using the Who tag to display only materials created by a single user, or if your search is filtering out all materials that do not begin with the letter A—it is possible for the newly imported materials to be hidden from view even though they are available in the 3DEXPERIENCE database. For more information about using 6WTags and the search field to filter content in the material browser, see Filtering with 6WTags.
