Filtering with 6WTags

6WTags reveal the semantics of your content and guide you to filter the content.

Open 6WTags

From the Top Bar, click 6WTags .

6WTags appear in a dedicated panel on the left, which can display up to 6 W categories: What, Who, When, Where, How, Why.

  • Tags can display a maximum number of 50 3DSwym tag values, and 100 for 3DDrive or 3DSpace.
  • 6WTags can indent hierarchical tags up to 6 levels of depth. You get a flat list beyond that.

Search a Tag Value

In the 6WTags panel, click Search Tag to reveal the Search field.

Enter text in the field to filter the content.



Note: The Tag search is limited to what is already available on the UI. It does not fetch any additional matching tags.
Tip: You can also select specific 6WTags categories, for example What, to see their tags only.

Edit the Display of a Tag

Click then click one of the following options:

Option Description
Shows the default Type tag categories.

This option does not apply to custom types.
Shows the tag values.
Sorts tag values alphabetically.
Sorts tag values by number of occurrences.
Shows tag values as a bar chart.
Shows tag values as a pie chart.
Filter based on a text string entry. This option appears only when the widget supports it. The widget must be in maximized view .

This option appears for the apps that support it. 6WTags colorizes the first 20 tags under the selected tag category, and displays the tags that follow with the same color.

If the context app overrides the default colors for tags under tag categories, 6WTags apply these colors to the tags.

Notes: For hierarchical tags, the direct children in the hierarchy, get a lighter shade of the parents color.

To reset the colors associated with tags to match with new sorting criteria:

  1. Deactivate the colorize option.
  2. Apply the sort.
  3. Reactivate the colorize option.

About Tag Selection

Refine App Content by Selecting Tags

In the 6WTags panel, select a tag value to refine the content.

The app or widget refreshes to display the content corresponding to your tag selection.

You can select multiple tag values using:

Tip: To select a tag value and clear all other values under the same tag, click ALT + the tag value to select.
Notes: You cannot select multiple:

Tag filtering impacts widgets the following way:

  • When you maximize a widget, switch it to full screen mode, or select its header, the new filtering applies to this widget only. It does not affect other widgets in the dashboard. For more information, see Highlight Apps.
  • When the widget gets back to standard mode, it remains filtered, but 6WTags no longer display the tags that you applied.

Remove a Tag Value from the Selected Filters

In the Selected Tags panel, click the tag value you want to remove.

The filter disappears and the app or widget recalculates the content accordingly.

Actions in Multi-Selection

A floating action button appears at the bottom of the 6WTags panel to let you select actions.

Note: When there is only one action available, the action button shows its icon directly, and you can start the action with a single click (no menu appears).
Action Description
Select

This action lets you select multiple tags, as you can do with the CTRL key pressed on desktop devices.

You can select tags only, not tag categories.

This action is always available, everywhere, in all contexts.
Exclude

You can select tags only, not tag categories.

Important:
  • This action appears only when the app supports it. The widget must be in maximized view .
  • You cannot exclude date tags. However, you can exclude selected dates from the Selected Tags area.
Group

For this action, you can either select tag categories or the tags they contain.

Important:
  • This action appears only when the widget supports it. The widget must be in maximized view .
  • You cannot group on the Type tag category when you are in Category view.
  • You cannot group date tags.
Note: The count in the footer is the total count of tags under the selected tag categories.

To remove a tag category or a tag from the selection, click its title again.

After launching an action, the top of the 6WTags panel shows the active tags, in the Selected Tags area. You can identify grouped tags and excluded tags with their and icons.

Create User-Defined Tags

You can add user-defined tags under one or more W* root tags. These tags appear under User tags categories.

Important: Anybody can remove them at any time.

  1. Select content in the app.

    Notes:
    • In a 3DDashboard, maximize or highlight the widget first.
    • When you have selected content, you cannot refine using tags.

  2. If your environment contains several platforms, choose a platform name.

  3. In Tag Names, enter a Tag name, and then select its W category from the list, that is What, Who, When, Where, How, Why.

    Note: For 3DSwym content, the field displays suggestions of existing user tags, used within the selected object community. This applies to all the apps supporting the tagging of their 3DSwym data. For example, 3DSearch, 3DSwym widget/standalone, …

    Optional: You can enter the same tag in multiple W. For example, you can add MyTag both for the What and the Where W. 6WTags considers them as two different selections and adds two different tags.

  5. Click Add Tags.

    In the selected W*, your tag appears under a User tags category.



Tags from Apps Supporting Preferred Tags

For the widgets using the 6WTags protocol, the Administrator can also select the tags to display in 6WTags.

Tip: The UI displays a limited number of tags. To see all tags, click More tags at the bottom of the panel.

App-Specific Integrations

3DDashboard Integration

In a 3DDashboard tab, you can pin your preferred tags to the Selected Filters panel, when your widget is in minimized or resized view (not in maximized view). Your browser's cache keeps pinned tags to display them again after a page refresh or a new user session.

To pin a tag:

  1. In your 3DDashboard, select a tab and put your widget in minimized view or resized view .
  2. From the 6WTags panel, select a tag value, for example, Type > 3DShape.
  3. In the Selected Filters panel, expand the list and select Pin Tag.

    The tag is now pinned in the Selected Filters panel.

Note: To unpin or remove a tag, go back to the Selected Filters panel in minimized or resized view.

3DSearch Integration

6WTags also appear next to the search results list when you launch a query from the Top Bar search field.

  • The filter (see Edit the Display of a Tag) is available when the search widget is maximized for:

    • Date tags, which are always in From - To fields.
    • All tags having internal values that are identical to displayed values on the UI. This option is not available if internal and displayed values are different, typically for NLS values. For the Type tag, the option is not available as values are translated. For example, the internal type name VPMReference is displayed as Physical Product.

    Note: This option is not available for the Persons tag.

  • The Source tag is expanded to reveal all available sources. 3DSwym communities display under Communities, 3DSpace collaborative spaces (projects) display under Collaborative Spaces, and you also have nodes for 3DDrive and Google Drive.

  • Date tags, like Creation Date or Modification Date, let you specify a time range with calendars. This behavior does not apply when you pin the 3DSearch widget to the dashboard.

  • 3DSearch supports scenarios that pass from Advanced Search to 6WTags and back again.

  • If you make a first query in the Top Bar search field, refine with 6WTags, and make another query, 6WTags filters are still applied to your search results. When you close the Search Results panel, 6WTags resets all filters.

  • For environments with 3DSwym:

    • The Where category has a Geolocation tag, which allows you to filter the content by the data owners' country.



    • The Who category has a Persons tag, which shows a flattened view of tags per person.

      Note: These are the preferred Who Tags defined by the Administrator. For more information, see Tags from Apps Supporting Preferred Tags.


      Clicking a tag fetches all the data corresponding to the user. For example, John Locke searches for all data Last Modified By or Owned by John Locke.

Important: You cannot create user-defined tags from search on 3DDrive content.

3DSwym Integration

In 3DSwym, the 6WTags panel clears selected tags when you refresh the page.

For the 3DSwym dashboard app, you can configure the widget preferences to keep selected tags.
