Creating Fill Rate Profiles

Fill rate profiles define the filling rate as a function of time or as a percentage of filled cavity volume.

  1. From the Setup section of the action bar, click Fill Rate Profile .

Tip: You can also open this dialog box from the Fill simulation section of the Process Settings dialog box by clicking Add or Edit .

  2. Optional: Modify the default Name for the profile.
  3. Select a Control method, and specify the data below:
    OptionDescription
Time Percentage of final fill rate over time. You must enter data pairs for time and fill rate percentage in order of ascending time. The last data pair determines the Fill Time.
Volume Volume of injectable material over time. You can specify the fill rate using volume control in either of the following ways:
    • For screw-based data, specify data pairs that describe screw position versus screw speed, and specify the screw diameter of the injection molding machine. When you change the screw diameter, the dialog box automatically updates to show the corresponding screw travel distance necessary to fill the part volume.
    • For data describing the percentage of mold volume filled, you must enter data pairs that describe the percentage of fill versus the flow rate of material injected into the cavity. Data rows should be entered in order of increasing volume percentage.
As you enter data, all columns of the table are updated accordingly.

Tips: You can also import data from an external file by right-clicking in the table. When you complete the tabular profile data, you can visualize the data in an X–Y plot by right-clicking any table cell and selecting XY plot from the contextual menu.

  4. Click OK.
