Setting up the Mold Simulation

The Mold simulation predicts the temperature distribution within the mold and cavity and how these temperatures change during the molding cycle. It can also predict cycle time. The default values for the Mold simulation are suitable for many simulations, but you can adjust any of these parameters to customize the simulation for your plastic injection analysis.

About the Mold Simulation Options
About the Mold, Fill, and Pack Steps
  1. From the Setup section of the action bar, click Process Settings .
  2. Expand the Mold simulation panel.
  3. Optional: Select a Control method to specify how the Mold closed time should be calculated. The Mold closed time measures the entire time that the mold is closed; therefore, it spans the length of time of the fill, pack, and cooling simulations.
    OptionDescription
Temperature control Computes the Mold closed time automatically by monitoring the polymer temperature in the mold cavity. The end of the mold closed interval is reached when 90% of the cavity volume falls below the Ejection temperature. When temperature control is selected, the calculator symbol appears in the Mold closed section of the cycle times diagram to indicate that the mold closed time is to be determined in the Mold simulation.
Time control Specify the Mold closed time manually. Changes you make to this value will be reflected in the Cycle Times diagram.
  4. Optional: Modify the Mold open time, which determines how long the mold stays open after the end of the cooling simulation.
  5. Optional: Modify the ambient Air temperature for the simulation.
  6. Click OK.
