Creating a Model Version

Product Managers, System Engineers, and Design Engineers can create model versions. Model Versions can be created from within a model, or directly from the top bar Actions menu. When a new model version is created, a model with the same name is automatically created and connected to the model version.

    Model Prefix

Type the model prefix to be inherited by all model versions and product configurations created under the model. Use alphanumeric characters. The prefix is case-insensitive since all values are converted to capital letters and stored. The prefix must be unique to ensure that the short form notation of the model version can uniquely represent it for other downstream processes.

Your Business Administrator specifies the maximum prefix length.

Note: Although Model Prefix is a required field when creating a model version in Variant Management, it is not required when creating a model version in Model Definition. You cannot view the Model Prefix field of model versions created in Variant Management in Model Definition. The Model Prefix field of model versions created in Model Definition is blank when the model version properties are viewed in Variant Management.
Description Type details that describe the model version.

If no design responsibility is defined, the model version is accessible by all Product Managers and System Engineers of the company. If you choose an organization that you do not belong to, you will not be able to access the new model once it is created.

The design responsibility must be assigned before the product line reaches the Released state.

Collaborative Space Select the collaborative space in which to create the model version.
Marketing Name By default this field is populated with the same value as you entered in the Name field. If you opted to automatically name the model version, you must enter a marketing name.
