Playing the Experience in VR Mode

Once you have created the different variants of a product and configured the presentation mode for Play, you can play the experience in the Virtual Reality (VR) mode. Using an HMD (Head-Mounted Display) device, you can review the different variants of a product in an immersive manner, for discussion and decision-making purposes. For more information, see 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps: Navigating a Virtual Environment Using HMD.

Before you begin:
  1. To start a VR session with the Product Perception Experience VR skillset, from the Presentation or AR-VR section of the action bar, click Perception Experience VR .
  2. Put on the headset and grab the controllers.
  3. To switch between the Navigation and Variant Exploration skillsets, press the menu button on the controller in the dominant hand.

Start with the Navigation skillset (it is active by default).

Note: Air grab navigation is available in both skillsets through the grip buttons. Press and hold one grip button to move, use both to rotate.

  4. To select a navigation mode, use the controller in the nondominant hand. To navigate the scene, use the controller in the dominant hand as explained in the table below.

  5. To explore variants, first select the Variant Exploration skillset by pressing the menu button on the controller in the dominant hand. Then, proceed as explained in the table below.

    Option Description Action
Variant Trigger Activates the variant triggered by the picked object. Touch the lower section of the touchpad (without pressing) to show the picking ray. Hover over a trigger object, and click to activate the corresponding variant.
Highlight Triggers Highlights all trigger objects in the scene using different colors (to distinguish between them). Keep the lower section of the touchpad pressed for more than 2 seconds to highlight all of the trigger objects.
Previous / Next Cycles through variants. After activating a variant trigger, use Previous and Next to cycle through the variants in the same variant line.
Show Viewpoints Displays cones in the 3D area that act as triggers for viewpoint variants. First activate Show Viewpoints, then aim at one of the viewpoint cones, and activate the viewpoint with the variant trigger on the lower section of the touchpad.
    Notes:
    • When the picking ray is aimed at a trigger object, the ray changes color, and the controller vibrates.
    • Trigger objects are highlighted using different colors to be identified easily.

  6. To capture viewpoints and stage variants , press and hold the corresponding command on the controller in your nondominant hand for at least 2 seconds. The controller provides tactile feedback to confirm the capture.

After you leave the presentation mode, viewpoints and stage variants are available in the Presentation sessions panel. You can keep this panel as is, or if you prefer, you can drag variant thumbnails to other lines or panels. You can also drag entire variant lines to other panels.
Tip: Press Ctrl while dragging to copy the thumbnails and lines instead of moving them.
  7. In the action bar, click Perception Experience VR again to end the VR session.
This automatically stops the presentation (Play) mode as well.
