Making Gate Decisions

Decisions involve taking an action on the project, such as approve, conditional approve, hold, cancel, or resume (after a hold).

Before you begin: View the schedule for a project. See Working the Structured View.
  1. In the schedule for a project, click the name of the gate.
  2. On the page toolbar, choose one of these actions:

Approve. Approves the project to continue. Creates a Decision with the name "Approve".

Note: When approving a gate, all tasks that the gate depends on must be completed before you can approve the gate.

Conditionally Approve. Approves the project to continue under certain conditions. Creates a decision with the name "Conditional Approve".

Hold. Puts the project on hold. Creates a decision with the name "Hold". The gate state changes to "In Approval".

Resume. Puts the project back on "Active". Creates a decision with the name "Resume". The gate remains in the "In Approval" state.

Cancel . For a project in Active or Hold state, this stops the project. Be sure that you want to close the project because you cannot undo this action. Creates a decision with the name "Cancel."

Note: When canceling a gate, all tasks that the gate depends on are ignored. Only the owner of the project has access to cancel the gate.

Completed. Once a gate is completed, you cannot demote or delete the gate.

  3. On the Create Decision page, enter a Description for the decision made.
  4. Click Done.

The decision is created and the gate is completed.
