You can define the operations and operation parameters of all systems.

This task shows you how to:

Defining Time Distribution

Define Operation on Buffer System

You can define the Buffer system operations either in System Editor or PPR Context.

Right-click Buffer system in System Editor or PPR Context and select Define Operations.
The Define Operations dialog box appears.

Note: You can define operations for the following systems in the same way: Sink System, Source System, Transfer System and Transformation System.

Define Time Distribution on General System

You can define time distribution on General system.

  1. Click time distribution in Estimated Time column.
    The Edit Time Distribution dialog box appears.
  2. Select and change the time distribution for a General operation to Exponential from the list in the Edit Time Distribution dialog box.


  3. Make the changes, and click OK .
    The time distribution of the General operation changes to Exponential.

Define System Properties

You can define system properties.

  1. Click System Properties .
    The System Properties dialog box appears.
  2. Enter the maximum number of products stored in the system as Capacity.
  3. Select the order in which products are routed in the system as queuing mode.

    • FIFO: First in First Out
    • LIFO: Last in First Out
    • Priority: Not Supported

System Operation Mode

You can set the system operation mode and configure Push or Pull behavior.

System behavior can be set to be in two modes:

  • Push System: System operates based on products available upstream and routes its outputs to downstream systems that accept them. A source provides products based on inter-arrival time distribution, while a sink dispatches when they are available.
  • Pull System: System operates based on requests from downstream systems. The system requests for inputs from the upstream systems required to produce or output the request products. A Source provides products when requested and Sink requests for products based on inter-arrival time distribution.

To select Push or Pull option:

  1. Right-click the column in Define Operations.
    The System Properties dialog box appear with Push and Pull options.
  2. Select Pull or Push in Operations Mode to define the arrival time for requests.
