Creating a Defect Cause

You can create a defect cause to the identify the cause of a problem. After investigation, you can also create multiple levels of defect causes under the original defect cause to arrive at the root of the problem.


Before you begin:
  1. From the Root Causes Page toolbar, click Create New. To create a child cause, select a defect cause and click Create New.
    The Create Defect Cause page appears.
  2. Enter the following details.
    Field NameDescription
    Type Click to select the type as or its subtype. When you select the subtype, the custom attributes that are added to the selected subtype are listed in the Custom Attributes section of the page.
    Note: You can create a subtype for the context object using the Data Model Customization app. For more information, see Installation and Setup | Customize | 3DEXPERIENCE Platform | 3DSpace Data Model | Data Model Customization | Specialize Data Model | Specialization Types | Creating, Editing and Deleting a Specialization Type.
    TitleType a title for the defect cause.
    DescriptionDescribe the defect cause.
    FactorSelect a classification.

    This field is unavailable if you add a child cause.

    Sub-FactorSelect a sub-classification.
    PrimarySelect the check box if the defect cause is primary.
    Approaches UsedSelect the approach that you used to identify the defect cause. You can select multiple approaches.
    Defect Detected Within Quality PlanSelect Yes if the defect was identified using the quality plan. Otherwise, select No.
    Reason Not DetectedSelect the reason if the defect was not identified using the quality plan.
    Other ReasonIf you have selected Other in the Reason Not Detected list, specify the reason why the defect was not identified using the quality plan.
    Custom Attributes Type the additional information for the custom attributes that are selected as subtype of the defect cause.
  3. Click Done.
    The defect cause is created.
