Creating Fillets Bounding Curves

You can easily create fillets bounding curves. A fillet being defined by a median line, the twin bounding curves are the curves parallel to the median line, on each side of the median line. Two curves connecting the extremities of the twin bounding curves close the outline of the fillet.

  1. From the Wireframe section of the action bar, click Curves Network Preparation and select a Mesh.
  2. From the context toolbar, select Fillet Curves .
    The following commands are proposed:
    • Constant Fillet Offset (active by default)
    • Variable Fillet Offset
    • Offset Management
  3. Select either Constant Fillet Offset or Variable Fillet Offset and pick points on the mesh, near the theoretic median of the fillet to create.
    • The median line is created as a standard curve and displayed in a softer color.
    • The twin bounding curves are automatically created on each side of the median line, as its construction progresses.
    • A second context toolbar opens with more creation and diagnostic tools to help smoothness tuning. For more information, see Ensuring Curve Quality.
  4. Optional: Use Ctrl-Z to undo the last pick.
  5. Edit the fillet curve as required.
    • Add new points at the end, or insert a point between existing ones.
    • Move or delete existing points.
    • Adjust the tangent of an existing point.
    • Set point/tangent constraints at extremities.
    • Adjust the mathematical definition.
    • Use analysis tools.
    • Switch the offset mode Constant Fillet Offset/Variable Fillet Offset and adjust the offset value.
    • Extend the current fillet curves up to a target element (See Extend or Extrapolate)
  6. Select Offset Management .
  7. Optional: Drag the handle on the last picked point to modify the offset distance. Alternatively key in a value.
    1. For a variable fillet, repeat at each point.
    2. Click the icon at the right of the value editor to round the offset value.

Tip: For Constant Fillet Offset, right-click to display the handle at the closest point from the pointer location.

The bounding curves are automatically updated.
  8. Pick Offset Management again to hide the value editor.
  9. Validate the curve and switch to edit mode for more corrections.
The median line, the twin bounding curves (FilletCurve) and the perpendicular curves (Curve on Mesh) are created under Fillet in the tree.
