Adding Symbol Representations on Drawings

In 2D drawings, you can add a graphical representation with annotation text on hidden rebar layers and identity overlapping bars efficiently.

Before you begin: From the Building and Civil Assemblies app, open a product containing rebar layers.

  1. To view the rebar layers perpendicular to a selected plane, click Normal View .
If the view is moved perpendicular to the yz plane, all the bar layers are overlapping and you cannot distinguish shorter bars.

  2. In the Multi-Discipline Drafting app, to generate a drawing from the rebar layers' geometry, click the Rebar Drawing command from the Civil Engineering section of the action bar and select the Front view.
The bars are generated as wireframes in the 2D view and they are listed in the Elements tab of the Rebar Drawing dialog box.

If the yz plane is used to create a front view in a drawing, all the bars are combined.

  3. To add a short line at the bar extremities to indicate where a hidden bar starts and ends, do the following:
    1. Launch the automatic numbering by clicking Number Group(s) of selected Element(s) . Only one bar is visible for each layer selected in the list.
    2. Select the line of the short bar in the list of the Elements tab to highlight it in the geometry. Before selection, you cannot see it, hidden behind the other ones.

    3. Click the short bar in the panel and select the Properties contextual command.

The Properties panel is displayed. When you select the Start and End Extremity check boxes, additional boxes appear to configure the Length, Angle, direction, and Text of the symbol line.

A green and a blue icon next to the Start and End Extremity check boxes indicate the position of the bar extremities. The same temporary colors are used for the additional lines on the drawing.

  4. Select the Start and/or the End Extremity check boxes and configure the additional line representation by doing the following:
    1. Edit the length and/or angle parameters to define the targeted additional line representation. A preview is proposed and updated when both parameters are modified.
    2. To invert the additional line positions, click Reverse .
    3. Optional: Add a text to go with these symbols. You can use keywords in the text field (% followed by a character) to add rebar layer properties or computed quantities. It is the same syntax and behavior as for the 3DTag in the Rebar Creation command.

Tip: You can customize your text by writing xx=%y.

  5. Optional: Click Apply to update the view and see the modifications.

    You can preview the text.

  6. Click OK to validate the additional line changes.

You can repeat the process to add extremity lines on other layers, or select the Properties contextual command of a layer having additional lines to edit them.

You can edit the text and move its position even after leaving the Rebar Drawing command.

If you click Cancel, the modifications are not taken into account.

Any modification applied to the rebar layers in the 3D area is reflected in the additional bars and text.

  7. Optional: To change the text position or font after leaving the Rebar Drawing command, click the text and select the Properties contextual command.
You can also modify other properties such as the color of the text.
