A duplicate copy of a simulation (regardless of how it was created) inherits the attributes of the original simulation, including the status of the previous execution. Therefore, if the original simulation ends prematurely during the previous execution, the duplicate copy of a simulation will also indicate that it ended prematurely during the previous execution, even though it has never been executed. Advanced DuplicateFrom the Collaborative Lifecycle app, you can use the Duplicate Advanced command in a Navigation or Search Results window to create a duplicate copy of a selected simulation and its content in the database. By default, the Duplicate Advanced command copies the content of the Model, Scenario, and Result categories of the original simulation to the new simulation; and there is no relationship between the new simulation and the original. Alternatively, you can choose to reuse parts and representations, and the Model category of the new simulation will contain parts and representations that refer to the same PLM objects in the database as the parts and representations in the original simulation. Similarly, you can exclude selected parts and representations from the duplication process, and they will not appear in the new simulation. The following table summarizes which objects in a simulation can be reused by or excluded from the Duplicate Advanced command:
Note:
You cannot reuse the product directly. However, you can reuse the
product indirectly by reusing all of the parts and representations inside the
product. This allows you to create copies of a simulation that contain
references to the products in the original simulation.
The Duplicate Advanced command provides options that allow you to name the new simulation and to transfer the lock status and the ownership of the original simulation over to the new simulation. The Keep configuration option applies only to product structures and has no effect on a simulation. The Optimize reuse option applies only if your administrator has applied business rule scripting to simulation objects. DuplicateYou can use the Duplicate command from the Simulation Finder section of the action bar in a Navigation window to create a duplicate copy of a selected simulation and its content in the database. By default, the Duplicate command copies the content of the Scenario and Result categories of the new simulation from the original simulation. However, the Model category of the new simulation reuses the product, and it refers to the same PLM object in the database as the product in the original simulation. To duplicate a simulation that includes a copy of the product from the original simulation, you should use the Duplicate Advanced command. You are always the owner of a simulation that you duplicate using the Duplicate command, and the new simulation is always unlocked. A customization setting determines whether you can name the object that is being duplicated, as described in Identification. |
