About Simulations and Knowledge Templates

You can store the methodology used to create a simulation in a knowledge template. Other users can instantiate the template and create a new simulation that replicates the original methodology.

Using a Template to Replace the Product in a Simulation

After you have created a simulation and are satisfied that it is generating the expected results, you can create a knowledge template that captures the methodology of the original simulation.

If desired, you can specify that a user is prompted to select a product that replaces the original product when the template is instantiated. As a result, the simulation can be repeated on different products.

For more information, see the Engineering Templates User's Guide.

You should be aware of the following limitations if you want to replace the product:

  • Any supports that are used by the simulation must be published; for example, the faces that support constraints and excitations. For more information, see Working with Publications in the Product Structure Design User's Guide.
  • The new product must include published supports with the same names as the published supports in the original product.

When you apply a template, properties, excitations (restraints and loads), and mesh characteristics are applied to the matching published supports in the new simulation.
