Creating Structure Sections

You can use structure sections to create structure members.


Before you begin: Create a closed sketch to use to create structure sections.

Creating Custom Sections
  1. From the Structure section of the action bar, click Structure Section Manager .
  2. In the Structure section manager dialog box, click New Section .
  3. From the Standard list, select New Standard and specify a name for the new standard in Standard title.
  4. From the Profile list, select New profile and specify a name for the new profile in Profile name.
  5. From the Profile type list, select a shape to add to the profile you are creating.

    You can select standard or custom shapes for the profile. For the selected standard shapes, the preview is available in the Profile details section of the dialog box.

  6. Optional: To add a custom shape for the profile, do the following:
    1. From the Profile type list, select Custom Profile .

      Alternatively, click .

    2. From the Design Manager tree, select a sketch for creating the profile.
      The selected sketch appears in the Profile sketch field and a preview appears in the work area.
    3. Specify Size Name for the new profile.
    4. Optional: Click Custom Pierce Points to specify custom points.

      1. Click Add Pierce Point.
      2. Under Pierce Point 1, click in the Name field and specify a name for the first pierce point.
      3. From the work area, select a sketch point.

        You can specify multiple pierce points.

    5. Click Save and Continue to save and continue to add new sections.
    6. Click .
  7. Click Add Size to specify the size for an existing standard profile section and do the following:

    1. In Size name, specify a size.
    2. Specify the dimensions such as Radius, Thickness, or Angle for the sketch.
    3. Optional: Click Save and Continue to save the above parameters and continue to add new profiles.
      Note: The profile is saved in the collaborative space with the profile name followed by the suffix of profile size. For example: MyProfile_50x60. You can use 3D Search to search for the profile.
    4. Optional: Click Add Size to create another new section in an existing standard profile.
      Note: You can create a section by adding a new size in:
      • A new standard and new profile
      • An existing standard and new profile
      • An existing standard and existing profile
    5. Optional: In the dialog box, click Edit Section to edit an existing structure section profile.

  8. Click .
