Generating Flow Matrix

The Flow Matrix displays flow exchanges for logical and function component.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: For the purpose of the scenario, create a function model.

Generate Flow From Components

You can display emitting and consuming flows by selecting a logical or a function component. The matrix can be expanded to display the children flow exchanges.

  1. In the tree, select a function component.
  2. From the Edition section of the action bar, click Open Flow Matrix in New Window .
    The Flow Matrix pane appears and displays the parent function components of the model.

    The value in the cells indicate the number of elementary flows produced by the function component of the corresponding line and consumed by the function of the corresponding column.

    Note: If you hover the pointer over a cell or select one, the symmetrical cell against the diagonal is highlighted.
    Tip: To display the name of the flows, hover the pointer over a cell.
  3. To expand a component:
    1. Select the component to be expanded.
    2. Click Expand ... and select the first level.

    Note: To expand the whole matrix, click Expand All.

    The line and column of the selected component are highlighted.

  4. To display the flows exchanged between the children of a component, enter a value to indicate the level in the Internal Flow Depth box.

    Note: By default, they are not displayed (0). To display all the levels, enter -1.

    All intermediate parents are removed and only the number of flows between the remaining children functions are computed.

    In this scenario, if the value 1 is entered, the matrix displays the following result:

    • For the component F0: 3 flows (Flow D, Flow K and Flow W)
    • For the component F1: 1 flow (Flow B)
    • For the component F2: 2 flows (Flow G & Flow H)

  5. Optional: select a cell to highlight the following elements in the main view:
    • The two connected functions components
    • The network of connections from the producer (row) to the consumer (column).

    Note: The other elements are displayed in low light.

Generate Flow Matrix From a Diagram Views

You can display emitting and consuming flows by selecting a diagram or allocation view contain function or logical components.

The following scenario describes the display of flow exchanges from a diagram view. The Steps remain the same for the allocation view.

  1. Create a diagram view, and place function components.

  2. In the tree, select the diagram view.
  3. From the Edition section of the action bar, click Open Flow Matrix in New Window .

    Note: The selected component is the owner of the diagram view.

    The Flow Matrix pane appears and displays the functions components connected to the selected function component and placed in the diagram view.

    The value in the cells indicate the number of elementary flows produced by the function component of the corresponding line and consumed by the function of the corresponding column.

    Only the selected component are expandable to display the children placed in the diagram view, but the children are expandable.

  4. If needed, you can expand the matrix. For more information, see the Generate Flow From Components section.

Generate Flow Matrix From Allocation Views

You can display emitting and consuming flows by selecting a diagram view containing function or logical components.

  1. Create an allocation view.

  2. In the tree, select the allocation view.
  3. From the Edition section of the action bar, click Open Flow Matrix in New Window .

    Note: All logical components in the allocation view are take into account.

    The Flow Matrix pane appears and displays logical components placed in the allocation view. A node for functions not allocated is created.

    The logical nodes are expandable to display the allocated functions.

    Notes:
    • All allocated functions are replaced in the Flow Matrix by the corresponding logical components.
    • Flows exchanged between allocated function in the same logical component are displayed as internal flows (diagonal cell) of the logical component. For more information about internal flow, see the Step 4 of the Generate Flow From Components section.
    • The logical components with no allocated functions are not displayed in the Flow Matrix.

    Only the selected component are expandable to display the presented children in the diagram view. But the children are expandable.
