About Publications

Publishing elements is the process of making an internal object of a product structure (geometry, parameter, or another publication) available to different users. Publications are used to separate the design from the pointed object by offering a higher level of objects with characteristics that are similar to the actual object.

The Publication command is used to publish, define, and create elements to be made available to different users.

This page discusses:

Object Selection

You can publish elements such as points, lines, curves, planes, sketches, bodies, part design features, and free style features.

The publication of an element inside a representation is the nominal case. A group of objects are published using geometric sets. If the content of a geometric set is not published, it is removed from the current set of objects and is not taken into account during the publish operation. One element can be published by multiple users working in concurrent engineering.

In Me > Preferences > Infrastructure > Product Structure Design, if you select the appropriate option in the Selection area, you can create publications of the following elements: faces, edges, vertices and axes extremities, the axis of a curved surface, and the feature of a body. See Native Apps Preferences Guide: Publication.

Tips: To select axes, select cylindrical faces and use the Other Selection contextual command. For more about this command, see the 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps User's Guide.

On a cylinder pad, you can create the publication:

  • On the axis: If the Publish by default the Axis of a curved surface option is selected
  • On the face: If the Allow publication of faces, edges, vertices and axes extremities option is selected

These options are available in Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Infrastructure > Publication. See Native Apps Preferences Guide: Publication.

Publication Display in Tree

Publication Order

You can customize the display of publications in the tree:

  • By selecting the convenient options with Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling , and then Publication. See Native Apps Preferences Guide: Publication.
  • With the Reordering Tree command. See Reordering the Tree.

Masks on Publication

By default, masks are added to the publications in the tree. See Tree Masks.

CATIA V5 Publications

The CATIA V5 publications of geometric elements and parameters are displayed, provided that they are created with CATIA V5 POWER'BY.

You can perform operations on CATIA V5 publications (such as creating engineering connections, links...). The associativity is kept between CATIA V5 and 3DEXPERIENCE.

You cannot edit CATIA V5 publications in the 3DEXPERIENCE.

Publication on a Representation

To create a publication on a representation, the representation must be the UI active element.

You cannot create a publication on the representation of a 3D part. You must create the publication at the 3D part level.

Note: You can edit a publication on representation in the context of a product structure, but also in a pure mechanical part context.
