About X-CAD Design Management and Process Composer

CAD applications, such as CATIA V5, can store files in X-CAD Design documents, from where it can be accessed by Process Composer and exported to the working directory.

About Rules

X-CAD Design Management is an app that allows designers using a variety of CAD applications at remote locations to store their files in a central ENOVIA database. The CAD application can be configured to automatically store its files in X-CAD Design Management documents, or the files can be manually uploaded to X-CAD Design Management. For example, CATIA V5 can be configured to store its CATPart and CATProduct files in X-CAD Design Management documents in the database. See the X-CAD Design Management User's Guide for more information.

You can create referenced content in a simulation activity that refers to a X-CAD Design Management document and the CAD file it contains. When the simulation activity executes, a download rule exports the CAD file to the working directory. In a typical use case, the simulation activity will use a connector to create a finite element mesh using the CAD file that was exported to the working directory, and a second simulation activity will execute a simulation that includes the mesh. This workflow allows you to separate the CAD process from the simulation while maintaining traceability—if the designer makes changes in the CAD application, those changes can be selectively taken into the simulation process, where they are reflected in the finite element mesh and in the results of the simulation.

Note:

You should use X-CAD Design Management to move CAD data into the database. The role of Process Composer is simply to export the CAD data from the database into the working directory for additional processing.
