Exporting Data to an External Simulation Representation

A Simulation Analyst can use Process Composer to export 3DSpace data to an External Simulation Representation.

Before you begin:

A standard installation of Process Composer includes an ExternalSimulationExport connector that uses a V6 batch file to export 3DSpace data to an External Simulation Representation. Alternatively, a Simulation Methods Developer must have created a suitable connector with an application type of Exporter and promoted the new connector to the Released state to make it available to the Simulation Analyst.

Searching with Predefined Queries
  1. Create a simulation activity.
  2. From the Content page of the simulation activity, toggle on the category that will contain the non-V6 data.
  3. From the Content page toolbar, select Actions > Add Referenced Content.
  4. From the 3DSearch page that appears, use the 6WTags to filter the objects being displayed.
    1. From the Type tags, select the External Simulation Representation object type.
    2. Select additional categories and tags to add additional filters. For example, you can search for a specific revision, owner, description, or creation date.
Process Composer displays all the External Simulation Representation objects that match the search criteria.
  5. Toggle on the External Simulation Representation to export, and click Submit.
The External Simulation Representation appears under the category in the content page.
  6. Toggle on the document containing the External Simulation Representation, and select Actions > Set Input/Output > Set to be Input/Output.
  7. From the Content page of the simulation activity, select Actions > Create Rules > Download Rule.
  8. From the Create Download Rule page that appears, select an Export Method of Use Exporter.
  9. Search for and select an exporter (a connector with an application type of Exporter, such as the ExternalSimulationExport connector).
When you run the simulation activity, Process Composer exports the External Simulation Representation from 3DSpace and sends a string containing the following to the application:
    • The application name
    • The object ID from the VPM database
    • The object type
    • The object name
    • The revision of the object
    • Connector options, if any
