Working with Engineering Template Using the Replace Option

You can set reference plane system and its features as inputs while defining the template. You can replace these inputs while instantiating the template.

Before you begin: Open a structural assembly that contains multiple reference plane systems.
  1. Define the engineering template:
    1. From the Compass, click Engineering Templates.
    2. In the Components tab, click Add Reference.
The Select a reference to insert in the template dialog box appears.
    3. Click Search to search for the required objects, say a reference plane system, and click OK.
The searched objects are added to the template.
    4. Modify the instantiation behavior of reference plane system and set it to Replace. To do so, right-click the element and select Add Selected Components to Components to Replace.
The behavior at instantiation is set to Replace.
    5. Optional: Specify the inputs and parameters.
    6. Save your template and close it.
The engineering template is defined. For more information, see Engineering Templates User's Guide: Creating an Engineering Template Using the Replace Option.
  2. Switch to the Structure Design app.
  3. From the Tools section of the action bar, click Engineering Template Instantiation .
A message appears asking you to query an object using the Search box.
  4. Enter tmp: followed by the template name in the Search box of the top bar and click .
    The templates are displayed.
  5. Select the previously defined template.
  6. From the Components to set choice window that appears, click From Database.
  7. From the Select a Reference to replace the original one window that appears, do the following:
    • Search for the product that will replace the product in the knowledge template.
    • From the list of templates returned by the search, select the desired template and click OK.
The selected product appears in the Components to set choice window.
  8. Click OK.
  9. From the Insert Object window that appears, click OK.
The knowledge template is instantiated, and the reference plane system and its inputs are modified.
