Define the engineering template:

From the Compass, click Engineering Templates.
- In the Components tab, click Add Reference.
The Select a reference to insert in the template dialog box appears.

Click Search to search for the required objects, say a reference plane system, and click OK.
The searched objects are added to the template.
- Modify the instantiation behavior of reference plane system and set it to Replace. To do so, right-click the element and select Add Selected Components to Components to Replace.
The behavior at instantiation is set to Replace. - Optional:
Specify the inputs and parameters.
- Save your template and close it.
The engineering template is defined. For more information, see Engineering Templates User's Guide: Creating an Engineering Template Using the Replace Option.

Switch to the Structure Design app.

From the Tools section of the action bar, click Engineering Template Instantiation
.
A message appears asking you to query an object using the Search box. -
Enter tmp: followed by the template name in the Search box of the top bar and click
.
The templates are displayed.

Select the previously defined template.

From the Components to set choice window that appears, click From Database.
- From the Select a Reference to replace the original one window that appears, do the following:
- Search for the product that will replace the product in the knowledge template.
- From the list of templates returned by the search, select the desired template and click OK.
The selected product appears in the Components to set choice window. - Click OK.
- From the Insert Object window that appears, click OK.
The knowledge template is instantiated, and the reference plane system and its inputs are modified.
