About View Update Rule Templates

A view update rule lets you define each (geometry of a) component.

Concepts

The following characteristics can be managed during a view update:

  • The rule is applied on the 3D objects. All the 2D geometries related to the 3D object are affected by the rules. For example, color a SDD plate - all the 2D geometries of the SDD plate are colored with that specific color.
  • A part of 3D object that needs to be ignored by the clipping boxes/planes or breakouts.
  • If a 3D object needs to have a specific high or low priority in the hidden line logic.

The View Update Rules are triggered when a view is updated in the following:

  • In Drafting Template Design app.
  • In standard Drafting: after having the view update rule defined in Drafting Template Design app.
  • In the batch drawing update utility: after having the view update rule defined on the view in Drafting Template Design app.

If the smart view is created using a view template containing view update rules, for all the view rule templates in the view template an view rule instance is created which is shown under the view template specification node in the tree. The user cannot add or delete any view update rules under this specific view template specification node. But the user can activate or deactivate a specific rule whenever needed. The user can also modify the view update rule action for the view update rules coming from the view template, and these changes are locally applied on to the view and are not propagated to the template rules. If the user synchronizes the view template, all the view update rules under the view template specification node are synchronized, and all the local changes are lost.

During the smart view creation, an existing view rule template can be instantiated from the catalog.
