Creating a View Template

You can define the content and behavior required for the view creation in a unified place.

You can predefine all the parameters such as: GVS, Scale, View looking direction, View orientation, View update rules, View title, Grid, and Compass.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: You must have installed the Templates and Rules Designer (TER) role to create templates.

About View Looking Direction and View Orientation
  1. From the Smart Template Administration section of the action bar, click View Template .
  2. In the View Template - Toolbox panel, click an option to modify its parameters.

Specify the GVS

  1. Click GVS to modify the GVS parameters.
  2. In the View Template - GVS panel, under Available GVS, enter a name of available GVS and click Search.

    Tip: You can also enter * to search for all the available GVS.

  3. Double-click a GVS, or select a GVS and click Add to list.

    If multiple GVS are specified, elements in this list are available for selection during the view creation.

  4. Optional: Under Allowed GVS, select an element and click Remove selected to delete the selected element.
  5. Under Default GVS, select an option from the Default list.

Specify the Scale

  1. Click Scale to modify the scale parameters.
  2. In the View Template - Scale panel, under Input a scale, enter a scale value and click Add to list.
  3. Optional: Under Allowed scale, select an element and click Remove selected to delete the selected element.
  4. Under Default scale, select an option from the Default list.

Specify the Looking Direction

  1. Click Looking Direction to modify the looking direction.
  2. In the View Template - Looking Direction panel, select a plane type from the Plane type list.
  3. Optional: Select an option from the System and Category list.
  4. Select a direction from the Direction list.
  5. Click Add to list.
  6. Optional: To delete an element, select an element from the list and click Remove selected.

Specify the Orientation

  1. Click Orientation to modify the orientation.
  2. In the View Template - Orientation panel, select a direction from the Looking direction list.
  3. From the lists, modify the values till you get the required result.
  4. From the Type list, select a type.
    You can switch between Space Reference System (SRS) and Standard types.

Specify the View Update Rule

  1. Click View Update Rule to insert a view update rule.
  2. In the View Template - View Update Rule panel, perform any one of the following:
    • Click Catalog Browser , and select a view update rule template.
    • Click Pick icon, and select an already existing rule from the tree.
  3. Optional: Under View Rule Name list, select an element and click Remove selected to delete the selected element.

Specify the View Title

  1. Click View Title to modify the view title.
  2. In the View Template - View Title panel, click Catalog Browser and select a view title template.
  3. Under View Title Orientation, select a placement option.

Specify the Grid

  1. Click Grid to modify the grid parameters.
  2. In the View Template - Grid panel, click Catalog Browser and select a grid template.
  3. Define Placement and Offset parameters.
  4. Click Add to list.
  5. Optional: To delete an element, select an element from the list and click Remove selected.

Copy Attributes from a View Template

You can import attributes from a template (source) in session or a catalog and apply them to the selected (target) template.

  1. Click Copy Template to copy the attributes.
  2. In the View Template - Copy from Template panel, perform any one of the following:
    • Selection: Select a template from the tree.
    • Catalog: Click Catalog Browser and select a template.
  3. Under Destination, select a template from the tree.

    The attributes of this template are overwritten.

    Only the content of a normal view template can be copied.

    • If the source is a view template, the normal specifications of the view template are copied.
    • If the source is a structural view template, an error panel appears and the selection is ignored.

Specify the Compass

  1. Click Compass to modify the compass parameters.
  2. In the View Template - Compass panel, click Catalog Browser and select a compass template.
  3. Under Compass Placement, select the node and anchor location to place the compass.

    Notes:
    • If the template parameter, defined in the view template, is different than the one associated to the compass annotation in the view, the compass annotation is re-created based on the new template.
    • If a template parameter is defined in the view template without a compass annotation in the view, a compass annotation is created in the view.
    • If the already existing template parameter is unset in the View Template - Compass panel, the compass annotations are removed from the existing views after synchronization.
