Optimization Process Composer

Optimization Process Composer enables you to build a process that can automate your simulations, optimize your designs, and manage data.

This app is suitable for methods developers (that is, simulation experts) automating simulations, optimizing designs, or capturing best simulation practices in an automated process.

Optimization Process Composer provides an interactive environment that allows you to assemble a sequence of adapters into a workflow and to define the flow of data through the workflow, as shown in the following figure:

Adapters make up the steps of a simulation process. Flow adapters (such as Loop, Design of Experiments, and Optimization) run multiple iterations to drive the process. Utility and application adapters (such as Abaqus, Calculator, and Excel) perform a specific function and can invoke an application that is external to Optimization Process Composer.

Optimization Process Composer is a native app that lets you:

  • Create a graphical representation of your process using adapters as building blocks.
  • Configure the execution of adapters and the data that passes between them.
  • Define the data sources and the data dependencies.
  • Configure a design optimization study that explores the design space by running a physics simulation in multiple configurations.
  • Manage centralized data storage that any user connected to the server can access.
  • Interact with other apps to deploy modeling and simulation best practices to be repeatable, reusable, and accessible. For example, a methods developer can use Optimization Process Composer to define a workflow that captures company-wide standards and best practices. They can then use the Process Experience Studio app to create a template based on the workflow. A wider audience of users can then use the Performance Study app to open the simulation template, make changes within the specified limits, and run a new simulation process.

After your process runs, you can use the Results Analytics app to analyze the data generated from running the Optimization Process Composer workflow. For example, you can compare the data generated by the different simulations that ran during a design of experiments study and select the optimal design.
