Creating a Functional Tolerancing and Annotation View

You can create a functional tolerancing and annotation (FTA) view using the 3D Functional Tolerancing and Annotation app. These views are later used to generate 2D views in the Drafting app, during 2D extraction of the 3D part and annotations.

Before you begin: Open the structure to create FTA view.

Creating a Front View

You can create front, section, or section cut views/ annotation planes using the FTA app.

From the Compass, click 3D Tolerancing & Annotation.
You enter the 3D Tolerancing & Annotation app.
From the View Layout section of the action bar, click View Creation .
The Tools Palette appears.
Click Front View in the Tools Palette.
Select a face.
The View Creation dialog box appears.
Click OK.

The section cut view is created. Front views are represented by a blue reference axis and are identified as Front View.1 in the tree.

Creating a View from 3D

You can extract a 2D view from a 3D part with 3D annotations.

Before you begin:

You need to apply the following settings:

Go to Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Mechanical Systems > Drafting > View. Make sure that Exact View is selected as the View generation mode.
Ensure that same standard is used in the .CATDrawing and .CATPart documents. In this example, ISO is used as the standard.

Open the document where you have created the Front View.1.
From the Compass, click Drafting.
You enter Drafting app.
From the View Layout section of the action bar, click View From 3D .
Select Front View.1 in the tree.
A preview of the view is displayed in the drawing.
Click in the drawing document to generate the view.
