Generating Volumes for Structure Functional Design Objects

You can generate volumes for the Structure Functional Design objects, for the purposes such as size estimate of structure objects, placement of other components with reference to them, etc.

Before you begin:
  • Create a root product and insert the structure systems under it.
  • Create another root product and insert 3D parts under it, one 3D part for each structure system.
  • Create a mapping file in the .txt format as follows:
Structure System Name 3D Part Name
    Structure_System_01 3D_Part_01
    Structure_System_02 3D_Part_02
    Structure_System_03 3D_Part_03

The columns must be separated by using the Tab key.

  1. Access the Batch Monitor using the command line or the Utility... command available in the Tools section of the action bar. For more information, see Accessing the Batch Monitor.
  2. In the Utilities tab, double-click CATSldGenVolumeBatch.
    The CATSldGenVolumeBatch dialog box appears.
  3. Search the root product of structure systems:
    1. Click 3DEXEPERIENCE Platform Object Search .

Note: You can click Change Location for Object Selection to specify a server, if your objects are stored on another server.

    2. In the 3DEXEPERIENCE Platform Object Search dialog box, select the object type and the extension if any, specify the search criteria, and click Apply.
The searched objects are added to the CATSldGenVolumeBatch dialog box.
    3. Delete other objects using and keep only the root product.

For more information, see Searching for Objects.

  4. Click Fill SFD Root .
The product appears in the SFD Root product box.
  5. Remove the root product from the search results area using .
  6. Repeat Step 3 to search the root product of 3D parts.
  7. Click Fill Volume Root .
The product appears in the SFD Volume product box.
  8. Under the Mapping specification area, specify the mapping file.
  9. Optional: Under the report area, modify the report directory and the report name.
  10. Click Run to run the batch.
  11. When the batch process is finished, click Open Main HTML Report to open the report.
  12. Open the root product containing the 3D parts.
Under each 3D part, volumes are generated for all Structure Functional Design features of the corresponding structure system.
    Notes:
    • Each time the batch is run on the same products, the old volumes are deleted and new volumes are created.
    • You must not simultaneously initiate multiple batch processes for the same structure system or 3D part.
    • This functionality is for generating volumes for purposes such as size estimate of structure objects, placement of other components with reference to them, etc. Therefore, the generated volume structure may not be accurate and precise.
