Additive Manufacturing Scenario Creation is a native app that helps you:

  • Decide how a 3D printing process adds material to a part.
  • Define the laser path and energy used in a 3D printing process.
  • Add cooling effects on the product during a 3D printing process.
  • Add general simulation features that are required to fully define a simulation.
  • Predict any residual stresses in a printed part.
  • Minimize the gap between design and manufacture through process optimization.
  • Evaluate how a printed part performs under realistic loading conditions in an assembly with other parts.

Before you use Additive Manufacturing Scenario Creation, you must define a simulation model. Create the simulation model—including material assignments, properties, sections, and connections—using Structural Model Creation.

When you open Additive Manufacturing Scenario Creation, the app allows you to perform any of the following 3D printing processes:

  • A thermal-mechanical simulation of a powder bed process
  • A pattern-based thermal-mechanical simulation of a powder bed process
  • An eigenstrain-based simulation of a powder bed process
  • A thermal-mechanical simulation of fusion deposition modeling (FDM) and laser direct energy deposition (LDED) processes

After you run a simulation, you can use Physics Results Explorer to generate graphs and reports, view and share your results, and make decisions on the model's design.
