You can create a calculated response variable to measure the changes in a calculated value based on multiple response variables.

Before you begin: You must have existing response variables of the same type to create the expression for a calculated response variable.

  1. From the Response Variables section of the action bar, click Calculated Response Variable.
  2. Optional: Enter a descriptive Name.
  3. From the Operation options, select one of the following:
    OptionDescription
Combine Adds the values of selected response variables.
Add absolute values Adds the absolute values of selected response variables.
Subtract Subtracts the value of one response variable from another.
Subtract absolute values Subtracts the absolute value of one response variable from another.
  4. Select response variables to create the expression.

You can select only matching variables to create an expression. For example, you can add two displacement response variables. You cannot make expressions using variables, such as fastener force and reaction force, that measure similar quantities.

  5. Click OK.
