Configuring Multiple Distribution Servers

You can use more than one 3DOrchestrate Distribution Server with a single 3DSpace MCS. Individual end-users can then choose their default 3DOrchestrate Distribution Server to be used when executing their simulation processes.

This feature can be used to install different 3DOrchestrate Distribution Servers on-premise at different geographic locations. It also allows users to switch between a cloud-based 3DOrchestrate Distribution Server and one or more on-premise 3DOrchestrate Distribution Servers.

Each 3DOrchestrate Distribution Server has its own set of 3DOrchestrate Stations.

Before you begin: The 3DSpace MCS and 3DOrchestrate Platform Services (EEP) must already be installed and running. Your first 3DOrchestrate Distribution Server (EED) should also be installed and deployed.

  1. Install and deploy the new 3DOrchestrate Distribution Server as described in Installing the 3DOrchestrate Distribution Server and Deploying 3DOrchestrate in the Java Application Server.
  2. In the SMAExeServer.properties file, set smaexe.eed.id to a unique name for this server. See SMAExeServer.properties File. For example: 

    smaexe.eed.id=3DOrchserver2

  3. Restart the 3DOrchestrate Distribution Server.

    You can use the Restart Server action in the deployment utility to do this.

  4. Log in to 3DDashboard and open the Station Administration app as described in Opening the Station Administration App.
  5. To add your new server, click + Register Server.

    Enter the following properties for the new server:

    Name Unique identifier of this 3DOrchestrate Distribution Server; can match the smaexe.eed.id property you assigned in Step 2.
    Hostname The hostname of the computer on which this new 3DOrchestrate Distribution Server application is running.
    Port The port number for connecting to this 3DOrchestrate Distribution Server application. The default port is 443.

    It is no longer necessary to enter the smaexe.eed.id for the Server Properties ID as it will be retrieved directly from the server.

The new 3DOrchestrate Distribution Server is added to the list in the Server/Station Tree.
