  2. From the Location section, specify how to locate or position both the rack and the pinion in the mechanism:
    1. Specify the Revolute joint for pinion, which is the first attachment location on the connecting body or ground.
    2. Specify the Prismatic joint for rack, which is the second attachment location on the connecting body or ground.
  3. In the Transmission section:
    1. From the Definition by options, select one of the following:
    OptionDescription
Speed ratio Defines the transmission by a constant transmission ratio.
Transfer function Defines the transmission by a function.
  4. In the Transmission section:
    1. From the Input with respect to options, select one of the following:
    OptionDescription
Pinion Gives the inputs with respect to the pinion.
Rack Gives the inputs with respect to the rack.
  5. If you selected Speed ratio from the Definition by options, do one of the following:
    • If you selected Pinion from the Input with respect to options, enter the value for the Speed ratio pinion / rack (angle per length).
    • If you selected Rack from the Input with respect to options, enter the value for the Speed ratio rack / pinion (length per angle).
  6. If you selected Transfer function from the Definition by options, do one of the following:
    • If you selected Pinion from the Input with respect to options, specify the function for the Rack position (length as a function of angle).
    • If you selected Rack from the Input with respect to options, specify the function for the Pinion angle (angle as a function of length).
  7. Optional: If you selected Speed ratio from the Definition by options, enter the value for the Offsets.
    1. In the Pinion angle offset, specify the offset for the pinion.
    2. Specify the Rack position offset, specify the offset for the rack.

The rack/pinion gear appears in the tree, under the Machine Elements node of the active mechanism
