Electromagnetics

Electromagnetics material options let you simulate electrical and magnetic behavior of materials using solvers contained in CST Studio Suite Connected and in other SIMULIA electromagnetic simulation apps.

Depending on the app and the type of the solver used, you can define the following electromagnetic material models:

  • Surface model: Approximates the behavior of good electric conductors (metals) exposed to high-frequency electromagnetic fields. At high frequencies the electromagnetic fields are concentrated in a very thin volume near the conductor's surface. This propagation (skin depth effect) is described by a dedicated material model which does not require the discretization of the material volume.
  • Volume model: Describes volumetric electrical and magnetic properties of materials. This model is applied for low-frequency electromagnetic simulations where the electromagnetic field propagates inside the material and the propagation depth is large.
