Applying Design Changes and Updating 3DEXPERIENCE Simulations

You can make design changes to SOLIDWORKS models that you have already transferred to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

If you want to modify the SOLIDWORKS design since the last time you created and ran a simulation, you need to update the geometry model data on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and rerun the simulation to update the results.

Before you begin:
  1. In the MySession widget of the 3DEXPERIENCE task pane tab, use the Search command to locate and open your SOLIDWORKS documents in the 3DEXPERIENCE database.
  2. In MySession, from the Lifecycle section of the action bar, click Lock.
The selected files are now locked. Under Lock status, a green key icon indicates that you have locked this object.
Tip: You can only lock file objects that are stored in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. If a file object is already locked, a message appears stating that one or more selected objects are already locked. Other users cannot open a locked object for modification while it remains locked.
  3. Use SOLIDWORKS functionality to modify the required geometry features, such as dimensions, extrusions, or cuts.
Complete all the required geometry changes to the SOLIDWORKS files.
  4. In MySession, from the Lifecycle section of the action bar, click Save Active Window . In the Save to 3DEXPERIENCE dialog box, do the following:
    1. Select the Convert check box for the file objects you have modified.
    2. Select Release lock after Save.
    3. Click Save.
When the save operation completes, the icon under Status indicates that the file objects are updated in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. The file objects are released. When the conversion operation completes, the icon under Convert Status changes to a green check mark.
Tip: If the Convert Status column is not visible, use the context menu in the header row to select Customize View > Convert Status.
  5. In the 3DEXPERIENCE environment, switch to the scenario app where you set up the initial simulation.
  6. From the Tools section of the action bar, select Global Refresh and click Yes to update the 3DEXPERIENCE geometry data.
    1. Optional: To regenerate and view the mesh for the updated geometry, click Update in the Assistant or action bar.
Tip: Simulation features are updated automatically for certain geometry changes; for example, resizing support faces for applied loads. You may need to redefine simulation features linked to geometry selections that no longer exist after applying design changes.
  7. From the Simulate section of the action bar, select Simulate to update the mesh, rerun the simulation, and update the results.
After the analysis completes, the simulation results are linked to the latest geometry model data.
  8. From the top bar, select Save to save the 3DEXPERIENCE simulation object to the active collaborative space.
