Revising Test Cases

You can revise test cases to create newer versions for testing. Revising a test case retains:

  • All requirements and scripts linked to the original test case.
  • All prerequisite dependencies of the original test case.
Note: Revising a test case does not retain test executions. The test executions might not be valid for the revised test case.


Before you begin: The test cases must be in the In Work, Frozen, or Release maturity state.

  1. From the Review tab, select a test case to revise or multiselect several test cases to revise at the same time.
  2. From the toolbar, click Revise.

    Depending on your test case selections, the following options are available:

    OptionDescription
    Revise The New Revision dialog box appears and displays the case or cases with pending revision numbers. Click Revise to commit the revision change.
    Revise and Replace The test case version is immediately incremented and the latest revision appears in both the Review pane and Details pane.
    Revise By Latest Revision The test case version is immediately replaced by the most recent revision. The latest revision appears in both the Review pane and Details pane.
    Note: Validation and Verification Strategy prompts you if you are revising test cases with test executions to the latest revision. If you agree, all text executions from the selected test case are removed when replaced by a later revision.

Validation and Verification Strategy creates the newer versions of the test cases. The Review pane and Details pane both display the new revisions of the test cases with an incremented number.
