Restricting the Availability of a Control

You can restrict the availability of a control by using control logic that can make a control unavailable based on an attribute that triggers the control logic.


Before you begin: Open a card with a control that you want to make either read-only or hidden to users, based on their responses to one or more specified attribute.

Context: Control logic is a method of controlling the availability of some control to specific users or to members of specific groups.

  1. Select the control on the card to which you want to add the control logic.
  2. From the Card Editor menu, select Control > Control Logic.
  3. In the Control Logic dialog box, under Actions, click Click here to add action.
  4. Select the behavior for control logic to implement when the conditions are satisfied:
    • Select Grey out to make the control read-only.
    • Select Hide to hide the control.
  5. Click Click here to add action.
  6. Select one of the following:

    { Or Use { Or to trigger an action if any of two or more conditions are met.

    When you select this option, the system displays two rows of Click here to add condition. For each row:

    1. Click Click here to add condition.
    2. Select an attribute that is on the same card as the control.

      Your attribute selection is for one of two possible conditions that must be met to trigger the control logic.

    & And Use & And to trigger an action if two or more conditions are met.

    When you select this option, the system displays two rows of Click here to add condition. For each row:

    1. Click Click here to add condition.
    2. Select an attribute that is on the same card as the control.

      Your attribute selection is for one of two conditions, both of which must be met to trigger the control logic.

    An attribute (Select from the attribute list.) From the attributes list, select the attribute that is to trigger the control logic when the condition for the attribute is met.

    Choose an attribute that is on the same card as the control. Select only an attribute when only a single condition must be met to trigger the control logic.

  7. From the Comparison column, select how the software interprets the value.
    For example, for the attribute Constrained Date, a possible selection is Date Equal To.
  8. In the Value column, type the attribute value that is to trigger the control logic.
  9. To add another condition, repeat Steps 3 through 8.

    To delete an action or condition, select the action or condition from the list, and click Delete.

  10. Click OK.

When users who meet the conditions of your control logic access your customized card, they find the control unavailable, that is, read-only or hidden.
