About Checking Out

Checking out a file gives you exclusive right to edit it until you check it back in. While other users can open the file for viewing, they cannot change it.

Opening a Checked-in Assembly or Drawing

When you check out an assembly, part, drawing, or some other file, you are checking it out of the server. The server locks the file so that other users can only obtain a read-only copy. During check out, Connector for SOLIDWORKS, creates an editable copy of the file in your local directory, where you can edit it in the SOLIDWORKS product.

Note: If you open a file in the SOLIDWORKS view, you should check the file out in the SOLIDWORKS view and subsequently check back in the file in the SOLIDWORKS view. If you lock or check out a file in the web client while the file is opened in SOLIDWORKS, Connector for SOLIDWORKS marks the file as Read Only and does not allow you to check out the file at that time although the check out graphical interface appears active. Connector for SOLIDWORKS does not support updating the graphical user interface in this scenario.

When you check out an assembly that references parts or subassemblies, Connector for SOLIDWORKS handles the referenced parts and subassemblies as follows:

  • When there are no copies of the referenced files in your cache, the system requires you to also check out the referenced parts. It does so by selecting the Check Out and Get check boxes in the Check Out dialog box and making them inactive for the referenced files.
  • When there are local copies of the referenced files, but they are different iterations from the 3DEXPERIENCE server file references, the system determines how to handle the referenced file based on the administrator's setting of the Global Configuration Object (GCO) attribute, SLW-CheckoutPermitPartialGet.
    • When the attribute is set to TRUE , you can choose whether or not to include each of the referenced files.
    • When the attribute is set to FALSE, the administrator has determined that you must retrieve the database copies of all the referenced files. The Check Out and Get check boxes in the Check Out dialog box are inactive.
