About Opening Designs with Attachments
Attachments are SOLIDWORKS-referenced files that are embedded or linked to a SOLIDWORKS design.
When you open a checked in file with a linked part, assembly, or drawing, the system displays in SOLIDWORKS the Open Unlocked File dialog box. This dialog box notifies you that you can check out the assembly or drawing. This dialog box gives you the following options:
Option | Description |
---|---|
Yes | Checks out only the assembly or drawing and opens it in SOLIDWORKS. |
No | Open in SOLIDWORKS the assembly or drawing as read-only. This means you cannot modify the file. |
More Information | Opens a Check Out dialog box, which lists all the referenced parts. For example, for an assembly, the dialog box displays all the subassemblies and parts. For a drawing, the dialog box displays the linked file. From this dialog box, you can select any subassemblies or parts or select to check out all listed files. |
Cancel | Cancels the entire operation. No files open or are checked out. |
The value of the dialog box is that the More Information option gives you the opportunity to check out all the linked files.
