Extrapolating Curves and Surfaces (ICEM Shape Design command)

You can extrapolate curves and surfaces.

The Extrapolation command is available in two variants:

  • Extrapolation (Feature): A Feature element is inserted in the tree and the original elements are set to Hide mode.
  • Extrapolation (Datum): The extrapolated elements remain datum elements.


Before you begin: Open an existing 3D shape containing a surface be extrapolated.

  1. From the Modification section of the action bar, click Extrapolation (Feature) .

    The Extrapolation Feature dialog box appears.

  2. Select Standard in the Type box.
  3. Select a surface.
    Handles are shown at the surface.

  4. Select a handle in the middle of a surface boundary and drag it.
    The surface side is extrapolated dynamically.

  5. Select Unequal in the Type box.
    Handles are shown only at the corners of the surface.
  6. Select a handle and drag it.
    Only one edge is extrapolated.

  7. Select Factor in the Type box.
  8. Select the Boundaries to be extrapolated.
    No handles are shown at the surface.

  9. Do one of the following:
    • Select Factor in the Stretch type box.

      Enter a value in the Factor box and click Apply.

    • Select Range in the Stretch type box.

      Move the slider to do the extrapolation.

  10. Click OK.
    The extrapolated surface is created.
